Privacy Policy

Dreamside ("we", "our", or "the app") is a sleep and dream journaling app developed by Casey Lester. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Dreamside collects, how it's used, and your choices.

Data Stored on Your Device

Dreamside stores the following data locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. This data may sync to your personal iCloud account if you have iCloud enabled:

• Dream journal entries (narrative text, emotions, quality ratings, dates)
• AI-generated dream images associated with your entries
• Bedtime routine configurations and completion history
• Sleep metric data read from Apple Health

We do not have access to any data stored locally on your device or in your personal iCloud account.

Data Sent to Our Servers

When you use AI features (image generation or dream interpretation), the following data is sent to our backend service:

• Dream narrative text — sent to generate an image or interpretation. This text is forwarded to OpenAI's API for processing and is subject to OpenAI's privacy policy.
• App Store receipt data — used to verify your subscription status. This is validated against Apple's servers and never stored beyond the validation check.
• An anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated ID used only to enforce usage limits. It is not linked to your name, Apple ID, or any other identifying information.

Our backend runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may log request metadata (such as IP addresses) in accordance with Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Apple Health Data

Dreamside requests read-only access to sleep data from Apple Health (HealthKit), including sleep duration, sleep stages, heart rate, HRV, wrist temperature, and respiratory rate. This data is read directly from HealthKit and displayed within the app. It is never uploaded to our servers.

What We Don't Collect

• No account or login is required
• We do not collect your name, email address, or Apple ID
• We do not collect location data
• We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs
• We do not sell your data to third parties

Children's Privacy

Dreamside is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data Retention

Dream narratives sent for AI processing are not retained by us after the AI response is returned. OpenAI's data retention policies apply to data processed by their API.

Your Choices

You can delete all app data at any time from the Settings screen within Dreamside. You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Health → Data Access & Devices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
